have heard from quite a few sources that Jeremy Mayfield will drive the #4 Kodak Chevy is he can get out of his contract with Penske Racing LLC(which I hear he can’t and won’t) UPDATE: confliction of sources – also being told Kevin Lepage has the gig with the #4 and Ricky Craven was the hot rumor a week or so ago(10-12-2000) UPDATE 2: it was reported on RPM 2Night Friday that Mayfield, crew chief Peter Sospenzo, and sponsor Mobil One will stay with the #12 Penske Racing LLC team and honor their contracts which run thru 2002(10-13-2000) UPDATE 3 – #4 Driver Announcement MONDAY: #4 Kodak Owner, Larry McClure plans to announce his new driver Monday(Oct 16th). McClure has been linked to several competitors in the garage with Jeremy Mayfield, Kevin Lepage and Ricky Craven heading the list. Mayfield says he is staying put who says he hasn’t spoken with either Roger Penske or Michael Kranefuss since Penske bought out Kranefuss earlier this week. Mayfield is under contract with the team and says he plans to remain next season(Richmond Times Dispatch)(10-14-2000) UPDATE 4: throw Rick Mast into the #4 Driver mix if he does not go back to AJ Foyt’s #14 if Hornaday gets that ride and no two car team materializes UPDATE 5: hearing that Jeremy Mayfield has told #4 owner Larry McClure he is NOT interested in driving the #4 car, and that he has a contract for two more years with Roger Penske(10-15-2000) UPDATE 6: The anticipated announcement of a new driver for Morgan-McClure will not be made until a later date. It was thought to happen today, but will not materialize. “I am not ready to make an announcement about a new driver at this time,” Larry McClure, team owner, stated. “We have not yet made a definite decision. I realize the importance of this announcement to the team, our sponsor and the media. “I cannot give an exact date on when a decision will be made.
