The recent bombing of the USS Cole hit close to home for Langley Speedway executives Wayne Wyatt and Chuck Hall. They were part of the NASCAR/NHRA group that spent four days with the Navy in December 1996. The group included drag racer Jim Yates and NASCAR drivers Mike Wallace, Johnny Benson, Steve Grissom, Jimmy Hensley and Randy LaJoie, plus retired star Bobby Allison. They toured the USS Boise submarine and the USS Cole, then flew to Bermuda the next morning to ride in as the USS Enterprise led its battle group home from a six-month deployment in the Middle East(Daily Press)(10-20-2000)
