still hearing a ton of rumors that Jermey Mayfield will leave the #12 Mobil One Penske Racing LLC team and go to the #4 Kodak Morgan-McClure team but was leaving it alone since there were also so many stoires out there with quotes from Mayfield saying he is staying, but today on the CBS Sprotsline site there is a story: He won’t admit it, but Mayfield ready to jump ship by Jeff Owens, in which it says: Mayfield and McClure are working on a deal, and if their lawyers can work through the legal gobbly-gook, Mayfield may just stun the NASCAR world by walking away from Penske and Rusty Wallace and joining a team that is currently 31st in points(CBS). If this happens, it may be the big surprise with Rick Mast going to the #12, and the Winston Cup Scene mentions Mast, Kenny Wallace and Robby Gordon as possible drivers for the #12(10-27-2000) UPDATE: hearing that Mayfield flew to California last weekend and met with Roger Penske during the CART race there. There Mayfield supposedly told Penske he had every intention of returning next season and Penske told him he would hold Mayfield to his contract. Mayfield reportedly told #4 Owner Larry McClure this week that he was not leaving the #12(11-4-2000) UPDATE 2: After his strong second-place finish in Sunday’s race at Phoenix, Jeremy Mayfield repeated – this time with great emphasis – that he’ll be back as driver of the #12 Fords again next season(That’s Racin’) UPDATE 3: #4 car owner Larry McClure is close to making a decision on his new driver, and team sources say the decision is between Kevin Lepage and Robby Gordon with Ricky Craven suddenly only a long-shot(PitNow)(11-6-2000)
