Labonte Receives Award: NASCAR Winston Cup champion Bobby Labonte completed his run through the 2000 major auto racing awards Sunday by accepting the National Motorsports Press Association Richard Petty Driver of the Year award. Voted on by writers, broadcasters and photographers who cover NASCAR racing, the award is named for the Winston Cup series’ all-time victory leader and seven-time champion. As Labonte pointed out at the award ceremony, both he and his wife, Donna, now have received awards in which Petty played a significant role. Petty was a judge in 1984 when Donna was named Miss Thomasville (N.C.)
