3rd RCR team UPDATE: Richard Childress just inked a deal with AOL-TimeWarner(the #30 Chevy, Harvick was to drive it), which, with Dale Earnhardt’s death, suddenly needs sorting out. Rick Mast, whose current team(#50 Team) has missed two races, is under consideration(Winston Salem Journal), AND Childress, whose operation may need a third driver next week at Atlanta for sponsor AOL, in the ride Kevin Harvick was to have. Rick Mast could get the nod there(Winston Salem Journal)(3-4-2001) UPDATE: The debut of the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) #30 America Online (AOL) NASCAR Winston Cup program, originally scheduled for this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, has been postponed. The postponement was originally announced Feb. 23 in an RCR release that named Kevin Harvick as the driver of the #29 GM Goodwrench Service Plus Chevy. It had been announced Feb. 9 that Harvick would be the driver of the AOL car but, with him assuming the driving chores of the #29 car, options continue to be explored for the debut of the AOL/RCR program. “The plan was for Kevin to run seven Winston Cup races for AOL this season and then fulltime in 2002,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “AOL has been wonderful to work with through these trying times and agreed to let us move Kevin to the GM Goodwrench team. Atlanta was originally scheduled to be our first race with AOL but they agreed to let us move that date back in order to give us some time to best determine how to move this program forward.
