Compton Wins/Irvan Returns UPDATE: Stacy Compton held off Michael Waltrip and Brett Bodine to win the 30-lap celebrity Late Model Stock shootout Saturday in front of about 10,000 customers, the largest audience ever at the .416-mile banked New River Valley Speedway. Fourth went to retired leadfoot Ernie Irvan and last was Kerry Earnhardt. Waltrip, this year’s Daytona 500 winner, was the pole sitter and ran up front most of the first 15 laps. At that stage, the race was stopped and the order inverted. Irvan then started first, followed by Earnhardt, Waltrip, Bodine and Compton.(Roanoke Times)(5-13-2001) UPDATE Irvan/Waltrip Win: A crowd of 26,202 at Kentucky Speedway watched several Winston Cup drivers in a celebrity “Legends” race, followed by an ARCA RE/MAX stock race won by pole sitter Frank Kimmel.
