UPDATE yes: hearing that Bobby Hamilton Jr will run the #33 Oakwood Homes Chevy for injured Joe Nemechek in the Coca Cola 600 at Lowes Motor Speedway UPDATE: Bobby Hamilton, Jr. passed the preliminaries – he is headed to the “big show.” For one race, at least. Hamilton is driving in place of regular driver Joe Nemechek, who was injured in a crash during BGN testing Tuesday, May 15, at Dover Downs. A tire appeared to have cut and sent his car into the wall between turns three and four, breaking Nemechek’s right arm near his elbow and his right scapula. He will be in a cast for up to two weeks, doctors have told him. Hamilton, Jr. will make his first practice runs Thursday at the Charlotte track, and qualifying Thursday night for the Coca-Cola 600.(Williams Company)(5-21-2001)
