Nice: The Make-A-Wish Foundation brought 7-year-old Wagas Manzoor to the track Friday. Manzoor, who is suffering from a life-threatening illness, took one lap around the speedway with IROC test driver Jim Sauter, then pulled into Victory Lane as his family looked on. Sauter also is a former Winston Cup driver. “Fantastic,” was how Manzoor described the experience. Manzoor’s father, Hussain, said his son is a race-car fan who watches each Sunday, but that his son does not have a favorite driver. Wagas Manzoor, who is from Round Rock, Texas, near Austin, was cheered by a small crowd outside Victory Lane and gave the crowd the thumbs up signal as he sat next to a trophy on the roof of the car and photos were snapped. “Really there was so much excitement,” Hussain Manzoor said. “It was very exciting and we are so thankful to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.”(Daytona Beach News Journal/AP)(8-4-2001)
