Throttle Cut Off Fails? UPDATE:

Throttle Cut Off Fails? UPDATE: #21-Elliott Sadler said a throttle cut-off switch might have caused him to crash on the third lap. He continued racing and finished 23rd. “That’s two weeks in a row that thing’s cut off on me,” Sadler said of the device developed to shut the engine off when the throttle is stuck. “It made me hit the wall [last week] in New Hampshire and then cost us a lot of points here today. I know it’s a safety device, but that’s two weeks in a row it’s killed us, so we’re going to try to do something different about it.”(Roanoke Times)(7-30-2001) UPDATE: Pat Tryson, crew chief for Elliott Sadler, said that the throttle cut-off device, which contributed to a crash last weekend at Pocono, has been fixed. Tryson said Sadler got hit from behind at Pocono and hit the brakes. The car has a cut-off device that if enough force is applied to the brakes while the accelerator is open, it automatically turns the engine off. That’s what happened to Sadler. Tryson said the device has been modified to withstand more pressure before cutting the engine off.(Roanoke Times)(8-4-2001)
