Shawna’s Deal in Trouble? Shawna Robinson’s continued attempts to run in the Winston Cup series this season – and next – may be in jeopardy. Sources close to her team said Friday that Tropicana, which was going to sponsor her next race later this month at Kansas City, Kan., is reconsidering its participation. Tropicana was also considered a strong candidate to sponsor Robinson’s team for a full season in NASCAR’s Grand National series next season, as well as some additional Cup events(That’s Racin’) AND Shawna Robinson’s bid to drive in selected Cup races this season has been put on hold until sponsorship can be found. Car owner Michael Kranefuss announced in March plans to field cars for Robinson in six Cup races this season. Robinson qualified at Michigan in June, becoming the first female to compete in Cup in more than a decade but failed to qualify at California, Indianapolis and Chicago.
