Jarrett sore but will race, Mast to stand by: #88-Dale Jarrett, who suffered a concussion, broken rib and multiple bruises in a crash last week at Kansas City, made sufficient laps in practice and qualifying Thursday and tentatively feels fit enough to go the distance in Sunday’s UAW/GM 500 at Lowe’s (Charlotte) Motor Speedway. Pronounced well by a physician and armored in rib protectors, Jarrett qualified 25th and said, “I feel good, like nothing ever happened, really. I’ve got another day of rest, then a pretty easy day Saturday, so I should be all right Sunday.” Jarrett’s main concern, he said, was g-forces in the car at speed, which can re-stir effects of a concussion. “I’ve never been knocked out in my life,” he said, “so I really didn’t know what to expect. Rick Mast, freed when the #27 [Eel River Racing] team suspended operations after Kansas City, will stand by in case Jarrett needs help.(SpeedVision)(10-5-2001)
