Pearson Recovering: David Pearson, second all-time in Winston Cup victories with 105, underwent heart surgery last week in his hometown, Spartanburg, S.C. The “Silver Fox,” considered by some to have been NASCARs greatest driver, is said to be recovering nicely.(Gaston Gazette) AND Racing legend David Pearson successfully underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery over the weekend and is resting comfortably in his Spartanburg home. “He’s wonderful, mean as ever,” Pearson’s son Larry said by phone Thursday. “There wasn’t but one (artery) messed up, but when they got in there they found some more that were about 20 percent, so they went ahead and fixed those, too. He’s fine. He’s home, and everything.” The 66-year-old three-time Winston Cup champion retired after the 1986 season with 105 career victories, a mark exceeded only by Richard Petty.(The State)(10-12-2001)
