Wally signs for five years: Wally Dallenbach Jr. signed a five-year contract extension, which includes an interesting twist, with NBC and TNT to continue announcing Winston Cup and Busch Series races. Dallenbach said NBC will allow him to compete in select Winston Cup events as “an announcer in a race car” and run the full 2002 IRL schedule. Dallenbach said he hopes to have a Daytona 500 deal in hand within the next week. He’s pitching a deal to three Winston Cup teams for this unique opportunity. A source close to the deal said Andy Petree Racing is considering hiring Dallenbach for a four-race deal in the vacant #33 car. Joe Nemechek drove the #33 this season but is moving to another team next season. The Petree car has no major sponsorship[for the #33].(Daytona Beach News Journal)(12-1-2001)
