Some Yarn in the Wind:

Some Yarn in the Wind: While other members of the Bam Racing [#49] team were hammering and turning wrenches on Shawna Robinson’s Dodge, crew chief Eddie Sharp was finishing equally-important work with a ball of yarn. As the team thrashed to find every ounce of speed from the car during a three-day test session at the Daytona International Speedway, Sharp was hoping his ball of yarn would provide valuable answers. He cut the yarn into small pieces then he attached them all around the bottom of the car. The car was equipped with cameras under the car and the hope was they would catch the way the yarn flapped in the air as Robinson drove 181 mph around the track. “Sometimes you can see how the air is moving under the car and what you need to do to make it better,” Sharp said. “Right now, this is the easiest way.”(Augusta Chronicle)(1-17-2002)
