Nemechek and Bodine to run at Vegas: Travis Carter, owner of the #26 and #66 Fords of drivers Joe Nemechek and Todd Bodine, respectively, said Friday that his teams would compete next weekend at Las Vegas. But he would make no commitment beyond that. Both of Carter’s teams have been sponsored by Kmart, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January. Kmart’s sponsorship ends following Sunday’s race at Rockingham. “We do have some hope and there are some listeners, but that’s pretty much the extent of it. We’re going to run next week and we don’t know after that,” Carter said. “One race at a time and today’s Friday. We leave Tuesday or Wednesday, so something could change. We’re not quitters. We’ve got to where we are by working hard and having good people associated with us and getting some breaks along the way, and we’re not going to throw in the towel yet.” Carter said he has kept his 60 or so employees fully informed of the status of his teams and has yet to lose anyone. He also said he would be open to selling part of his team if it would be a way to help ease the financial burden. “We would be willing to negotiate, I think, under many different circumstances and scenarios to generate revenue to keep these teams going,” Carter said.(ThatsRacin.com)(2-22-2002)
