Park Tests…to return soon UPDATE: Steve Park tested Thursday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, running with DEI teammates Dale Earnhardt Jr., Michael Waltrip and Kenny Wallace. Thursday’s test, in which the drivers tried to simulate race conditions, was observed by doctors and NASCAR officials. RPM2Night reports that the test went so well that Park could return to action in a few weeks. Park plans to test next week at Atlanta and also at Darlington. Wallace told RPM2Night that he’s pulling for Park to make a successful return, and that it’s possible Wallace would still make some Winston Cup starts for DEI after Park’s return. Park was injured during a September BGN race when his car darted down the track during a caution period and into the path of Larry Foyt’s #14 car.(ESPN and RPM2Night)(2-22-2002) UPDATE: NASCAR did not charge any of the teams with one of their seven test sessions because it was done to aid a driver, a series spokesperson said. Also, a NASCAR official was present at the test.(Roanoke Times)(2-23-2002)
