Kyle Petty said a goal at Petty Enterprises is to form a BGN team and run a few races this season. Petty said the goal had been to put Steve Grissom in the team’s BGN car or align with a BGN team. That was before Grissom replaced Buckshot Jones in one of the team’s three Winston Cup rides [#44]. Petty said the team continues to work toward restarting a BGN program by the end of the year. If a team is developed, Petty said it probably won’t have a young driver. “At this point in time we are probably 80% sure, unless it’s a phenomenal younger driver, we’re not going to put a younger driver in the car,” Petty said. “We don’t have the luxury of a Hendrick or the luxury of a Roush organization or a Gibbs or a Yates to train a driver and bring a driver along. We’ve got to get guys in here that can win races. I think that was the main reason we made the change with Buckshot. We just felt like to move forward with Petty Enterprises we just didn’t have time to bring Buckshot along at the rate we needed to come along.”(Roanoke Times)(5-5-2002)
