Theres a chance that Bill Davis will cut back on his #23 BGN operation with driver Scott Wimmer and run only the races for which they have backing from Siemens. The deal with Siemens is for 17 races, and several of those have already been run. Wimmer, however, said May 11 in New Hampshire that actually skipping races probably wont happen until later in the season. Its just so hard to find sponsors, and then with all the money were spending, I think Bills coming to a point where its not really worth it, Wimmer said. I hate to do it, but I also understand from an owners standpoint. Its just hard to run these teams with no money and no sponsors. Also a possibility is moving to the Winston Cup circuit, where Davis fields Dodges for Ward Burton and Hut Stricklin. BACE Motorsports made a similar move earlier this year, opting to move its unsponsored team from the BGN to Cup with driver Chad Little. Its not definite, Wimmer continued. Were not sure whether were gonna enter some Cup races and just cut back on our Busch races. If we get up in the top five in points, well probably scrap the whole idea and run the rest of the year. Were just talking about it.”(Winston Cup Scene – need sub to read)(5-16-2002)
