Mast to retire? UPDATE: the LTN Radio show reports that Rick Mast, who took a leave from the #90 Donlavey Racing team for health problems may retire from racing. UPDATE: Being told Mast has said that retirement is NOT an option that he is considering at this time. His plan is to get back into the #90 car as soon as possible, but he did say, that is out of his hands at this time. His doctors are continuing his diagnosis, and he says they have ruled out “most of the serious stuff” including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but the problem has not pinpointed yet. Hermie Sadler (as announced last week) will be in the #90 car for Pocono, and beyond that, he does not know. Bobby King will come back to crew chief for the Pocono race, King was not with the team in Dover, and they didn’t make the race.(WTVR-TV Richmond Report)(6-3-2002) UPDATE 2: Rick Mast is still visiting doctors and undergoing tests, trying to find the answer for his recent fatigue and weight loss. Mast hasnt felt well off and on this season. He took a break from Donlavey Racing in late May, missing races at Charlotte and Dover while undergoing a ceaseless string of medical tests. Basically, what theyre trying to do is rule out different possibilities, Mast said. That’ where were at, is ruling out things. Mast’ doctor advised him not to race again until he is well. He is visiting various doctors and clinics trying to go through a list of possible problems. Meanwhile, he remains out of racing. He was home in Rockbridge Baths, Va., during the race weekend at Dover. The frustrating part is it takes time, he said. You have to be patient. That’ just frustrating. Mast has no idea how long the testing process will take.(Winston Cup Scene – need sub to read)(6-6-2002)
