UPDATE: the LTN Radio show reports that Dale Earnhardt Inc is talking to DeWalt Tools to sponsor a team, DeWalt’s contract with Roush Racing and the #17 Matt Kenseth team is over at the end of 2002. Roush is in negotations with DeWalt also.(6-3-2002) AND – Roush/DeWalt still negotiating: Roush Racing president Geoff Smith said talks continue with DeWalt, whose contract expires after this season as Matt Kenseth ‘s sponsor [#17 Ford]. The deadline for the two sides to negotiate exclusively with each other ended May 31. “It’s taken a long time for a renewal,” Smith said. “They were talking to other teams as well but they claim they want to be with us. We hope to shortly conclude the business arrangement either way.”(Roanoke Times)(6-10-2002) UPDATE: Officials from DeWalt Tools have told Roush Racing President Geoff Smith that it wants to return as sponsor of Matt Kenseth’ Ford for 2003. But until a deal is signed, Smith says he will listen if other perspective sponsors come calling. The contract that expires at the end of this season prohibited DeWalt from negotiating with other teams until June 1. Smith’ heard that the company has talked with Dale Earnhardt Inc. regarding a deal for next year, but isnt sure if those talks are ongoing.
