Donlavey Retiring/Closing Team? UPDATE: 78-year old Junie Donlavey, who owns the #90 Cup team, said on Saturday that he’s thinking of retiring. Sauer pulled their sponsorship from the team after the Pocono race [actually it was a part season deal]. Driver Rick Mast has been absent from the team for several weeks with an undiagnosed illness. Donlavey has been fielding Winston Cup cars for 52 years and he wants to go to Daytona one more time and is still searching for a sponsor as he says he can’t do it out of his own pocket, but it’s not looking very good. “I’m going to find a way to go to Daytona in July,” said Donlavey, “I just want to be there for one more race.”(Insider Racing News) AND Longtime Winston Cup team owner Junie Donlavey said Sunday that his team will not be at Sears Point next weekend and may fold if it can’t find a sponsor. However, Donlavey does plan to take his team to Daytona next month.(USA Today)(6-17-2002)
