Sacks getting closer: Greg Sacks, who has been out of the NASCAR loop for several years since suffering serious injuries in a crash at Texas Motor Speedway, is methodically putting the pieces together to own a team in 2003. “The bottom line is we’re developing this program to run a full Winston Cup schedule in 2003,” said Sacks. Sacks partner is Loren Fossie, an entrepreneur who lives in New Jersey who has has developed a board game called “FRANCHI$IT” which Sacks said is the “Monopoly of the new millennium.” Sacks will become a marketing tool for Fossie’s board game. The plan is to run at least two, but up to 10, races in 2002, before preparing for a full-scale assault next year. Sacks will be majority owner of the team, which will be based in Charlotte, NC. Sacks is talking to people — quietly — about having them join his operation next year. “I’ve been in contact with two crew chiefs, two guys I’ve worked with in the past,” he said. “The guy I want is interested.” The last few years have been tough for Sacks as Winston Cup teams hire younger and younger drivers. He realized he would have to create his own opportunity.(Daytona Beach News Journal), see past news and an image of the car on my #05 Team News and Links page(6-23-2002)
