June 14th will be the date and the historical .363-mile Hickory Motor Speedway will be the place where 15-year-old (16 on 8/18) Stephen Wallace [Rusty’s son] will make his late model racing debut. The third generation driver has entered his Hamke Chassis Dodge (equipped with Maurice Petty-built Dodge engine) in the June 14 United Auto Racing Association (UARA) 150-lap feature at the track. “Steve’s been practicing there and he’s really getting the hang of it,” says proud father Rusty Wallace. “It’s to the point now that he’s getting around that place faster than I can. This will be a good starting point for him. We’ll see how he does there in that race and then look at the plans for the future. Unfortunately, we’ll be racing up in Michigan that weekend and it will probably be impossible to get back to Hickory to help cheer him on.
