Andretti still looking:

John Andretti said he has spoken to his cousin, Michael, but not about the opening Michael had on his Indy Racing League team. “He’s got a path he’s set on, and I’m not looking to change from one (series) to another at this point,” Andretti said. “I guess it might have looked like we were in a position to help each other out, but more people thought about that than we did.” He also confirmed talks with #4 NASCAR team owner Larry McClure, who has an opening from the firing of Mike Skinner. But just as McClure told The Star last week that he isn’t looking for a “recycled driver,” Andretti isn’t looking to join another struggling team. “Right now, I’m looking more at 2004 than 2003,” he said. “I’ve got to look at this as an opportunity. I don’t necessarily have to do something now.” That doesn’t mean he isn’t getting antsy. Andretti said this weekend, the last open date on the Winston Cup schedule ahead of 20 races without a break, is easier to take than the last two.( Indianapolis Star )(6-27-2003)
