Ford Racing officials on Friday announced they had signed new, five-year contract extensions with three of the top Ford teams in Winston Cup – Robert Yates Racing, Roush Racing and Wood Brothers Racing. Together, the organizations field eight Cup teams each weekend and include such drivers as 1999 champion Dale Jarrett, current series leader Matt Kenseth and veterans Mark Martin and Ricky Rudd, among others. “Loyalty is something that we just take extremely seriously at Ford,” said Dan Davis, director of Ford Racing. “We like to reward loyalty and these three organizations have been so loyal to us that I felt it was important for Ford and Ford Racing to demonstrate our loyalty to them. We’ve picked our dance partner and for Ford Motor Co. and NASCAR, these are our dance partners.” These organizations were also instrumental in the development of the 2004 Ford Taurus, which will be officially submitted to NASCAR this week for competition beginning next season. “The kind of commitment that need to made for research and development and pooling of information and for the development of strategies can’t be made on an ad hoc basis,” said team owner Jack Roush. They can’t be made annually. They almost have to me made with a decade in mind, and this certainly is moving in the right direction.”( )(8-1-2003)
