Indianapolis Motor Speedway is using the traveling Indy Racing League safety team for today’s race, and Bill Elliott says it’s time for NASCAR to have its own traveling safety crew. “It’s something I’d like to see NASCAR adopt,” he said. “I feel like it’s time this sport goes into a realm of common people coming in every week that know the drivers and understand what the values are out there. My hat’s off to [IMS president] Tony George and all the guys here because they have been on the leading edge of safety. When we talk about soft walls, all this stuff, they put them up.”( Tampa Tribune )(8-3-2003)
