There must be something about this place and the Labontes. Are you sure we’re in Michigan and not in Corpus Christi? [TX] #18-Bobby Labonte grabbed his 4th Bud Pole of the season for Sunday’s GFS Marketplace 400 this afternoon. After a two hour rain delay he blistered off a lap of 37.847 (190.240 mph), good enough to edge out #12-Ryan Newman by .062 seconds. Bobby (now just one behind Newman in the race for most poles this season) now has 25 career top-spots in Winston Cup, and swept both poles here this year. #31-Robby Gordon (3rd) has his best starting spot since he had the outside pole at Infineon Raceway in June. #57-Kevin Lepage (4th) has his best starting spot since he had the outside pole at Texas in March of 2000! #5-Terry Labonte (5th) has his best starting spot since he qualified 5th when we were here two months ago. That’s the second half of that Labonte connection. #0-Jason Leffler (6th) has his best starting spot since he had the pole at Kansas in September of 2001. #43-Christian Fittipaldi (7th) had his career-best qualifying run today. His previous best start was 17th at Phoenix last November. #99-Jeff Burton (8th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 7th at Las Vegas in March. #7-Jimmy Spencer (10th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 7th at Bristol in March. And, once again, Jimmy didn’t have a problem telling us how he feels about the current state of racing in NASCAR during that rain- delay. And you can bet that Jimmy has tons of race fans who agree with him! #50-Larry Foyt (14th) had his career-best qualifying effort today. His previous best was 26th at Daytona in July. #74-Tony Raines (24th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 22nd at Bristol in March. STREAKIN….Bobby Labonte has 5 Top-10 starts in a row.
