Crew chiefs Nicholas Mahlik of the #09 team and Kevin Starland of the #99 team have been fined $500 each for violations of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rule book that occurred during the running of the Sept. 13 event at New Hampshire International Speedway, NASCAR officials announced today. Mahlik was penalized under Section 12-4-A of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rule book (Actions detrimental to stock car racing) for improper disposal of fuel by a team member. The violation also is covered under Section 9-4B: The crew chief assumes responsibility for the actions of his team members. Starland was penalized under Section 12-4-A, 9-4A and Section 20-B-17.1(3) for the actions of crew member Ed Lesley, who entered the truck service area without a helmet.(NASCAR PR)(9-17-2003)
