NASCAR Busch Series driver, Carlos Contreras, signed autographs and entertained eager NASCAR fans as part of the Third Annual Holland Tulipanes Latino Art and Film Festival. Contreras, 33, has recently joined the Hispanic Racing Team and Team Selica Racing to compete in the NASCAR Busch Series. Contreras joined HTR Motorsports and the Busch Series this season, signing a two-year contract. HTR Motorsports was established in 1999 in order to add diversity and create a new fan base within NASCAR. “I am working hard with HTR to build company support here in the United States and in Mexico,” Contreras said. “We have very good drivers in Mexico and it is my goal to bring some of them into NASCAR.” Contreras is racing in six Busch Series races this season, and will race the full schedule in 2004. Contreras is already thinking ahead to next season. “I want to be the rookie of the year in 2004. If you race more than six races in a year, it is considered a full season. That is why I am only racing six this year,” Contreras said. “Next year watch out, because Carlos Contreras is going to be there.”(Holland Sentinel)(10-10-2003)
