Jeff Gordon’s gotta feel like he’s home whenever he rolls into Martinsville Speedway. He completed his Bud Pole sweep of the 2003 season today by capturing his 4th pole of the year and the 46th of his Winston Cup career for Sunday’s Subway 500. His time of 20.220 (93.650 mph) was over 1/10th of a second quicker than Ward Burton. Gordon’s four poles have come on shorties (3 of ’em) and one road course. Ryan Newman has both Gordon & Bobby Labonte dormie (a four pole lead with four to go). #22-Ward Burton (2nd…and in his last ride with Bill Davis Racing), has his best starting spot since he had the pole at Richmond in May of 2002 #23-Kenny Wallace (4th) has his best starting spot since he had the pole at Rockingham in November of 2001 #7-Jimmy Spencer (12th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 4th at Darlington in March.[in a back up car] #21-Ricky Rudd (12th) has his best starting spot since he qualified 8th at Bristol in August. STREAKIN….Jeff Gordon has 7 Top-10 starts in a row. 45 cars on hand this week….the DNQ’s were Mark Green (in the #14 again this week and OOP), and Morgan Shepherd (they were too light and never got through tech).( StockCarFans.Com Winstoncup Newsletter)(10-17-2003)
