Jimmy Kitchens was introduced at the track on Saturday during a presentation by the National Safety Council of its “Safety Wins” program. The organization, with an OSHA grant and backing from Alabama-based Cavalier Homes, will offer driver training courses at eight tracks during Busch and Nextel Cup race weekends next season. The grant is limited to the safety program, but plans are in the works to find sponsorship to enter a car for Kitchens in the Busch events. “We anticipating running with Jimmy,” Ben Langley, safety director for Cavalier Homes, said. Kitchens, a former track champ at Birmingham International Raceway [AL], has run occasionally on the Busch circuit during the past few years. “This opportunity is with a quality team,” the Hueytown racer said. “I’ve won a lot of races at Birmingham and other tracks.
