Entering his hometown, Matt Kenseth was greeted with NASCAR flags flying from every pole and a temporary population sign that reads, “Cambridge: Population 1,100 and Matt.” Kenseth was in awe Saturday as thousands of fans cheered on their hometown hero in a parade down Cambridge’s Main Street. Later in the day some 2,500 supporters gathered at the Alliant Center for a fan club party. Storefront signs congratulated and greeted Kenseth and his wife, Katie. “It’s pretty overwhelming,” Kenseth said. “You never really totally get used to it. It seems like a dream.” A sea of fans wearing the black-and-yellow colors of Kenseth’s DeWalt sponsorship filled Cambridge for the parade, which featured floats promoting a local pancake breakfast, race cars, the Red Hot Dixie Jazz Band and various members of the Kenseth family. After the parade, Kenseth, who now lives in North Carolina, was presented a key to the village of Rockdale. A key to Cambridge was presented by Bob Nodolf – Kenseth’s driver’s education teacher.(full story at Wisconsin State Journal and an AP one at The State )(12-28-2003)
