Dallas resident Ken Weaver will chase NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year honors with a full arsenal. KW Racing was formed in 2002 after Weaver purchased the inventory — 19 Chevrolet Silverado trucks — that Coy Gibbs ran at Joe Gibbs Racing. “We’ve got a shop full of them,” said Weaver, 47, a self-described entrepreneur who competed in 13 ARCA/ReMax Series races last year. Weaver was ninth-fastest in NCTS testing at Daytona International Speedway last week, and first among Chevrolets, after touring the 2.5-mile trioval at 180.883 mph. Dallas-based PhoneCo, a telecommunications company, will sponsor Weaver’s #08 Chevy. “You’ve got to write it [ racing] off as a passion,” said Weaver, whose crew chief is Tommy Morgan, formerly of Roush Racing. “I’ve raced offshore boats, I’ve been a pilot for 35 years. But I have never had more passion for anything than racing.”(Fort Worth Star Telegram)(1-22-2004)
