#12 Ryan Newman and his ALLTEL Dodge team completed a two-day test at California Speedway January 21-22. Through qualifying and longer runs the team took 285 laps around the two-mile, D-shaped oval with the quickest lap registering in at 39.55 sec. (182.28 mph). Newman hold’s the pole speed record of 187.432 mph (38.414 sec.) set on April 26, 2002 at the superspeedway. He’ll return to defend his record and take on the 43 other drivers on their way to Gatorade Victory Lane on May 2 for the Auto Club 500 and September 5 for the “Finish Under the Lights” Pop Secret 500.
