Monte Dutton earned first place in magazine writing from the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) at its annual meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Jan. 18th for his story, “Dale Jr.: True to Himself,” published in November 2003.
Four days later, on Jan. 22, Godwin Kelly won the magazine writing category and a Rolex watch in the Miller Lite Motorsports Journalism Awards of Excellence in honor of Russ Catlin for his story, “Ryan Newman: One-Track Mind,” published in October 2003. The Journalism Awards of Excellence in honor of Russ Catlin recognize outstanding motorsports coverage in five categories while honoring the memory of Catlin, a motorsports journalism pioneer.
