Christian Fittipaldi will return later this week for the stock car portion of Speed Weeks, even though he doesn’t have a ride lined up for any events at Daytona International Speedway. Fittipaldi said he is under contract with Petty Enterprises Inc., but there is no sponsorship money to do a full race program. “Obviously like a bunch of other people out there, we’re fighting hard to find a sponsor for my program,” Fittipaldi said. “At the moment we have a program to do five or 10 Nextel Cup races.” Sponsorships are in short supply at the Nextel Cup level of racing, where multi-million dollar deals are needed to fund a team. “Hopefully, we can go find the budget to go racing the whole season,” Fittipaldi said. “The economy is hindering a lot of people out there. It’s hard for teams and race car drivers.”(Daytona Beach News Journal)(2-2-2004)
