  • #50-Derrike Cope’s team changed engines after Friday’s practice and will fall to the rear of the field before the drop of the green flag on Sunday. Have been told that #24-Jeff Gordon’s car, damaged on the end of his 2nd qualifying lap, when he smacked the wall, will not have to to go to a back-up car and the team will repair it. #41-Casey Mears also smacked the wall in turn 4 on his qualifying lap, but didn’t suffer as much damage.(3-6-2004)
    UPDATE…well add J Gordon: #24-Jeff Gordon, who damaged his car by hitting the wall on his qualifying lap Friday, had more trouble Saturday when he blew an engine in the first session. He’ll have to start at the rear of the field Sunday, as will Kevin Lepage after his team also made an engine change (ThatsRacin.com). Gordon was to start 20th, Lepage 35th.(3-6-2004)
