#12-Ryan Newman was the first driver out to qualify and held on thru the other 43 attempts to win the pole with a speed of 193.575mph at Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Golden Corral 500. It is Newman’s 20th pole in his 84th start. It is Newman’s third straight pole at Atlanta Motor Speedway as he swept both poles in 2003. #25-Brian Vickers starts on the outside pole with a speed of 192.634. One driver failed to make the race, 3-time Atlanta winner, #89-Morgan Shepherd. Both he and #80-Andy Hillenburg have made 3 attempts in 2004, but Hillenburg had more owners points. #98-Todd Bodine made the race, qualified 38th.
