Ryan Newman says NASCAR’s next safety move should be to eliminate mechanical fuel pumps on engine blocks and allow teams to install safer electrical fuel pumps, which could be installed inside the fuel cell. “You can get them for $20 at any NAPA store,” Newman says. Newman is also pushing NASCAR to eliminate mechanical dashboard gauges in a safety-related move.
