Casey Mears, driver of the #41 Target / Ganassi Racing Dodge, has taken over the wheel this weekend of the #1 James Finch Dodge in the Busch Series. Next week, Mears may be back in the Busch ranks, but not in the Finch car. With Andy Petree Racing still owing sponsor Monaco some races, the plan, possibly, is for Mears to pilot the #33 Chevy in Chicago. The #33 APR entry recently lost sponsorship along with driver Paul Menard, to DEI. When asked what his plans with Petree in Chicago were Mears said, “I’m not even sure what’s going on there but it is a possibility.” Problems may however arise with the Mears/Petree partnership since Mears drives a Dodge and Petree generally runs Chevrolets. A former APR employee, who left the team at the time of Menard’s departure, said Monaco was to be on an Andy Petree backed Craftsman Truck in Richmond with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. at the wheel. The ride with Mears may override that plan.(BGNRacing.com)(7-2-2004)
UPDATE Clint Bowyer will compete behind the wheel of the Andy Petree Racing #33 Chevrolet. Monaco Coach Corporation will still sponsor the Chevrolet Monte Carlo.(Catchfence)(7-7-2004)
