from an interview with Busch Series part-time driver Robby Benton, about running Carl Edwards in their #03 Car at Bristol in the Busch Series race, XM Satellite NASCAR Radio…Claire B. Lang:
RAB Racing will field Carl Edwards in the Bristol Bush race this weekend. Interesting…the team is owned by Robby and Bobby Benton – father and son who work at Yates on the M&M’s team. “It’s kind of something that just kinda happened at the last minute. Carl’s been a good friend, I have a lot of respect for him. He’s got a lot of talent, he’s got a big future. He’s a great driver and it’s the kind of deal where I’ve never run Bristol. I need to show that my team’s capable of being competitive. We missed a couple of races this year, circumstances that we know why..but from an oursider looking in I need the team to be taken seriously and I know that we can provide competitive cars both for potential sponsors and for my guys you know they need to have confidence that they can build a competitive car. Putting someone like Carl in the car especially coming off of you know he’ll run the truck race there Wednesday night and he’s in the cup car now so he’s got a lot of confidence and he’ll have a lot of track time there so we should be good right off the truck.
We’re getting a lot of support out of all the guys here at yates and the Busch side at roush has given us a lot of support with it because Carl’s a part of it so there’s a lot of knowledge behind it so I think we’ll be good. Carl’s really excited about it that makes a big difference. Right now he said as long as nothing changes the SuperChips truck team will pit it -Cowboy [Kevin Starland] his [Truck Series] crew chief will be there on a support basis – he said he’d be there if they needed his advice or anything. -MAC tools sponsoring it.(XM Satelitte NASCAR Radio 144)(8-24-2004)
