The truck #14 team of Rick Crawford will have a veteran crew member working today’s race. Not a veteran of working on a car, a veteran of the war in Iraq. Maj. Bill Lukaskiewicz of Kansas City will be serving on Crawford’s crew in an honorary basis. Lukaskiewicz, who returned from his tour of duty in Iraq in early September, is not real sure what his duties will be. I’ll follow orders, he said. I’m good at that. Word is he will be the tire catcher the guy who leans over the wall and grabs tires after they are taken off the car. Asked how he would feel if a tire got away and Crawford was penalized, Lukaskiewicz said, That would be bad. I probably would not be asked back. Lukaskiewicz was just awarded the bronze star for his efforts in Iraq.(Kansasa City Star)(11-13-2004)
