No Pension Plan Planned:

NASCAR chairman Brian France said Monday he doesn’t think a pension fund for retired Nextel Cup drivers is a realistic possibility in the near future. “Compared to many other leagues that allow it, we have differences in how we’re structured,” France said. “Our drivers are independent contractors with independent teams.” France addressed the topic at the NASCAR Research and Development Center, the first stop on the NASCAR media tour. Veteran Cup driver Rusty Wallace, who is retiring after this season, brought up the idea of a pension fund last week.(Dallas Morning News)(1-25-2005)
