Kasey Kahne double-dipped today at Richmond International Raceway as he grabbed the pole for tonight’s Busch race as well as the Bud Pole for Saturday’s Chevy American Revolution 400. It’s the second top-spot in a row for Kahne and the 6th of his Nextel Cup career.
Ryan Newman will start outside the front row after being quickest in practice then crashing and going to a backup car.
Tony Stewart (3rd) has his best starting spot since he had the pole at Chicagoland in July of 2003!
Jeff Burton (12th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 6th at Daytona in February.
Johnny Sauter (13th) has his best starting spot since he qualified 10th at Bristol in March of 2004.
Mark Martin (14th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 12th at Atlanta in March.
Tony Raines (31st) makes his first Cup start of the season.
STREAKIN….
Ryan Newman has 18 Top-10 starts in a row.
Greg Biffle has 9 Top-10 starts in the last 10 races.
Elliott Sadler has 4 Top-10 starts in the last 5 races.
The Trouble Train left town with four cars in tow…..Kevin Lepage (his 5th DNQ of the season), Jeff Fuller (the #34 car’s 6th DNQ), Kirk Shelmerdine (that car has failed to qualify in all seven attempts this season), and Carl Long (his 4th DNQ).
Darlington raised the bar last week, so Richmond’s got a tough act to follow. With the next two weeks at Lowe’s we could be in for a stretch of good racing continuing under the lights.(Stock Car Fans)(5-13-2005)
