Latest on Ward Burton:

Though he hasn’t completed a lap of Cup racing this season, Ward Burton is still on the minds of many NASCAR observers. Burton, 43, of South Boston, started at least nine Cup races every season from 1994-2004. He has been without a ride this season. When will he return? Only he knows for sure, but his brother, Jeff Burton, who is also a Cup driver, has his own ideas. “He’s gotten caught up in the youth movement,” said Jeff Burton, who was referring the glut of under-30 drivers on the circuit. “I’d like to see him drive a truck or a Busch car because he’s a great driver and he’s still got a lot left in him.” Ward finished 32nd in the points standings last year driving the #0 Chevrolet for the Gene Haas-owned racing team. His best points finish came in 1999 when he was ninth. He is working full-time to promote hiswildlife foundation this year.(Daily Press)(5-14-2005)
