Burney Lamar, the 2001 NASCAR Southwest Series Rookie of the Year, was signed by Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI), in January of this year to participate in its driver development program. Lamar is slated to compete for KHI in select NASCAR West, Craftsman Truck and Busch Series events in 2005. Lamar will also run the full NASCAR Southwest Series schedule this season for Victory Circle Racing. Lamar is currently second in the Southwest Series points standings after five events with one win and four top-fives. Lamar’s career will take the next big step this weekend in Nashville, as he attempts to qualify for the Federated Auto Parts 300 at the Nashville Superspeedway. Lamar will be driving the #83 HPS/Groeniger Chevy alongside his KHI teammate Tony Raines in the #33 Yard-Man Chevrolet. Lamar tested for the event one week ago, and adapted to the track well. Lamar will receive plenty of support this weekend at Nashville, his crew chief, Lance Dieters, is a veteran of the series, as well as his teammate Tony Raines and KHI General Manager Rick Carelli, who will serve has Lamar’s spotter. Lamar has wasted no time making the most of his new job at KHI. In just his second NASCAR West Series race at Phoenix International Raceway, Lamar put his #33 HPS/Groeniger Chevrolet in victory lane.
