On Tuesday, July 5 at 9:00pm/et, several of NASCAR’s stars steer for The Golf Channel airwaves by way of long drives and a few chips and putts all in the name of charity. The hour-long Big Break All-Star Challenge will be a spin-off of the network’s successful reality series The Big Break. The popular show pits 10 highly skilled golfers against each other in a variety of challenges that test their physical skills and mental toughness with the last contestant standing awarded their “Big Break,” a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete in select professional tournaments based upon the season’s prize. Hosted by The Golf Channel’s Brian Hammons and NBC Sports’ and former Cup Champion Benny Parsons, this Big Break All-Star Challenge features drivers Dale Jarrett, Jamie McMurray, Elliott Sadler, Rusty Wallace and Michael Waltrip competing in select series challenges, including the viewer-favorite glass-breaking challenge as well as a long drive competition.
Just like in The Big Break, a player will be eliminated after each round. However, instead of receiving exemptions onto a professional golf tour, these drivers will be playing for charity. The winning driver will earn $5,000 for his selected charity, while the remaining drivers’ charities will receive $2,000 courtesy of The Golf Channel. Taped at the The Peninsula Club in Cornelius, N.C. (near Charlotte), the drivers came out nice and relaxed. Once the cameras were rolling and the competition began their intensity heated up, with each trying to avoid being in the “pits” or being ribbed in the garage if they did not come out the winner.(Golf Channel PR)(7-1-2005)
