So what happens if there is a tie for 10th place in The Chase? UPDATE:

NASCAR’s Jim Hunter was interviewed during TNT’s Nextel Cup qualifying and was asked by Allen Bestwick what would happen if drivers are tied in the top-10 of drivers points? Hunter said, if two drivers are tied for 10th in drivers points after the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond, BOTH drivers would get in The Chase. It was later clarified that the only way the tie would allow an additional driver or driver to make The Chase would be if the tie was for 10th. If drivers are tied at 8th, the driver with the most wins [or 2nds, 3rds ,etc] get the spot, the other would be 9th, the 10th would be the final driver in.(9-9-2005)
UPDATE 8th is a tie: #99-Carl Edwards and #17-Matt Kenseth ended up tied for eighth in points, both with 3114. NASCAR ruled after the race that Edwards and Kenseth would start with the same number of points, 5015, when the playoff starts next week. Ninth-place points will not be awarded, NASCAR spokesman Herb Branham said, and 10th-place Newman will be paid for 10th place, starting the fall run with 5005.(Speed Channel), nascar.com has it as Edwards with 5015 and Kenseth with 5010.(9-12-2005)
