It was a double-dip Friday for the Rocket Man today as Ryan Newman took the Bud Pole for Sunday’s MBNA RacePoints 400 at Dover International Speedway with a time of 22.770 (158.102 mph). Scoop #1 was served earlier when he took the pole for tomorrow’s Busch 200 miler. This was pole #6 on the season for Newman (no one else has more than two) and the 33rd of his NEXTEL Cup career. Newman will be joined on the front-row by Kasey Kahne….this is Kasey’s best starting spot since he had the outside pole at Loudon in July.
Kyle Busch (3rd) has his best starting spot since he had the pole at California in February.
Scott Wimmer (16th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 11th at Pocono in July.
Kevin Lepage (35th) has his best starting spot since he qualified 24th at Daytona in July (only 4 races).
STREAKIN…..Jimmie Johnson has 3 Top-10 starts in the last 4 races.
Mark Martin has 3 Top-10 starts in the last 4 races.
Kurt Busch has 3 Top-10 starts in the last 4 races.
Gonna be a long day for the “Chasers” on Sunday as this race can last an eternity…..especially if you’re looking for the handle. Everybody seems to be playing nice so far (it is only Friday), but after Mike Helton gives them a talkin’ to pre-race we’ll see if it lasts.(Stock Car Fans)(9-23-2005)
