Newman going for the sweep UPDATE – didn’t happen:

#12-Ryan Newman won the pole at Dover for the Nextel Cup race and in the #39 Dodge for the Busch Series race at Dover. Newman is the first driver to sweep both the Cup and Busch Series poles at the same track since #9-Kasey Kahne did so at Richmond in May. Kahne won the Cup race but finished 4th [Edwards won]. As far as I know, no driver has ever won both poles and races in the Busch/Cup Series at the same track on the same weekend. Joe Nemechek won both races at Kansas last Oct, but only the Cup pole and Carl Edwards won both poles at Atlanta and the Cup race this past March, he is the only driver to get his first Busch win and first Cup win on the same weekend at the same track. So if Newman can win both races, he will be the first driver to sweep both the pole and win for both the Busch and Cup race at the same track in the same weekend.
One more step: Newman won the Busch Series race at Dover, so needs to win the Cup race to sweep.(9-24-2005)
No sweep: Newman finished 5th in the Cup race, so still no double pole/win sweep.(9-25-2005)
